Fuck the NRA
Once again hearing about another school shooting, I reactively screamed on paper. Being the mother of two teenage girls I have had enough of dealing with the fact that the prevalence of guns in the hands of kids in schools is insane. I blame the NRA and all their propaganda, among other issues, but on the day I made this..Feb 15, 2018..I was too raw to do anything else but scream.

Feb 15, 2018 I headed into my studio furious with having to deal with another school shooting, and the atmosphere it brings..the fear, the uncertainty, the frustration, despair, the normalization of tragedy and the visualization of a lack of control or empathy by those in power. Thus began a series I call “Triggered” Everyday I painted the word “problem” and covered the word up with AR-15 style weapons….piling up the images until the word “Problem” is no longer visible, just as the rhetoric about gun owner ship hides the abhorrent shootings, everyday a shift in the conversation away from the tragedy, till it’s all about the guns, and nothing was changed, just harder to see the problem. This is the first piece in the series.

This will piss off more people than seeing actual immigrant kids in cages
Seems like I can wake up on any given day and be horrified but what is happening. I go to my work table and try to work my mind around it all, and I make reactive, quick one day statements.

This is America
There are two soundtracks for this piece. One is Childish Gambino’s song of the same title…the other is the audio of the immigrant children crying for their parents, pleading for their family, and the guards laughing at them
